Weight Management and Hypoglycaemia

This lady is in her late 40's and has been trying to lose 25 pounds for last 15 years. She has tried several diets under doctor supervision, had lost some weight and regained it (sound familiar).

She claims that her blood pressure drops if she doesn't eat sweets, bread and rice, feeling dizzy and irritable. She had one bowel movement every other day suffering from constipation.

After initial assessment, I found out it was not her low blood pressure which caused her dizziness and sweet craving but her imbalanced blood sugar. She had hypoglycaemia. I just changed her diet to low Glycaemic index and high fibre foods without any restriction in amount and asked her to have more frequent meals, six meals per day with some supplements.

After one month, she lost 16 pounds, had two bowel movements per day, not feeling dizzy or irritable and not having sweet craving at all. Her waist size dropped from 105 cm to 95 cm. She was surprised not expecting such a incredible change without having a diet or calorie count, just changing her food and number of times eating during the day.

High Blood Pressure and poor digestion

My mother who is in her mid sixty's has been taking medication for high blood pressure for five years. Her blood pressure started to rise when she started hormone therapy for menopause symptoms. She was on medication when one day in the street she couldn't breath and had to go to hospital. Doctor ordered angiography and found 50% and 60% blockage in her two arteries.

At that time I knew that I had to do something or may I lose her forever. So I put her on a three weeks cleansing diet which she had to eliminate all common allergen foods and toxins from her diet.

After just one week, her blood pressure dropped from 140/85 mm Hg to 115/75 mm Hg.

There was some other extra bonus. Her joint pain on her right knee has gone. She couldn't believe it since she never believed in health and medical instructions.

At that time I knew that the reason of inflammation in her body which caused symptoms such as high blood pressure and joint pain was toxic over load because of her poor digestion. To improve her digestion I had to fix her existing Candida and leaky gut. By one month her doctor reduced her blood pressure medication and by three months she was medication free, lost 22 pounds and joint pain was gone.

Unwanted hair, hormonal imbalance and poor digestion

This lady in her late thirty's has been taking medication including birth control pills for unwanted hair for more than 10 years and wanted to know if there was any alternative way to fix this problem.

After initial assessment I found out that she had underactive thyroid and a stressful life style for many years (causing adrenal gland exhaustion). She also was low in iron which contributed to her underactive thyroid.

Her underactive thyroid could be very well explained by her poor absorption and poor nutrient of minerals such as selenium, zinc, idion and iron as a result of low stomach acid. Also was related to her underactive adrenals caused by chronic stress, and poor dietary habits of consuming sweets and caffeine. (The stress hormones have the same amino acid as a base as the thyroid hormone (tyrosine), adrenal fatigue may shunt away tyrosine from thyroid hormone production into stress hormone production. Consumption of a lot of sugar and caffeine increase the cortisol released from adrenal glands. The cortisol blocks the conversion of T4 to T3.)

Since her underactive thyroid was related to her digestive/intestinal system (poor dietary habits, poor absorption of nutrients) and glandular/nervous (chronic stress), I focused to improve her digestion so she could absorb iron and all other nutrients which were necessary for hormonal glands and also I asked her to change her life style and view of life to be less perfectionist and not putting herself in a stressful situation in her career and relationships. Also I recommended her some herbs for her thyroid and adrenal gland, lowering testosterone level in her body and helping ovaries to function properly.

She stopped her medication under her doctor supervision and claimed that didn't notice any increase on unwanted hair that usually she had noticed in the past when she had stopped medication.
